At Gnu we have a habit of looking after everyone else’s marketing and not our own. So, we’ve decided to take our own advice and implement the future marketing advice and trends we predicted for 2023. In our 22 – 23 infographic we told you that humour is 96% more likely to convert sales. We said that a large cross-section of marketers have predicted that lack of marketing strategy is one of the key reasons for failure. We also stated that one of the biggest trends for 2023 would be AI…
…So… we decided to launch a series of blogs about the things that really affect a video marketing strategy and then run them through AI software to redeliver them in the style of our favourite comedians.
Each week we’ll pick an industry and explore how a successful marketing strategy could look, sharing tips and hacks to optimise the reach. Then we’ll run it through the AI with the brief ‘rewrite this in the style of…’
We’ll be posting the original the day after so you can compare the two, so we’d love to hear how well you think Chat GPT has done – maybe out of 5. If there’s a topic or a style you’d like to see let us know by dropping a DM, an email, a text or a post to @GnuFilms. But for now let us begin with…

Video Marketing Statistics: 2023
DAVID BRENT IN THE OFFICE
INT. THE OFFICE
[David Brent enters the office conference room, fumbling with his notes.]
David Brent: All right, settle down, settle down, everyone. Gather around, gather around. Now, I know what you’re thinking. You’re thinking, “David, what do video marketing statistics have to do with selling paper?” [chuckles] But trust me, folks, it’s all connected. You see, video marketing is the future. And we need to get on board if we want to keep selling paper.
[Gareth Keenan leans in and gives a suggestive eyebrow lift to Tim .]
David Brent: Now, let me hit you with some stats. [pauses to look at his notes] This is has come straight from head office. …
Tim: …from google
David Brent: From Google, from head office. Right. Video content increases conversion by 80%. That’s right, folks, 80%. Fact.
Video content accounts for 74% of all internet traffic. Blam
[Gareth Keenan leans over to whisper to Tim.]
Gareth Keenan: Its actually 75%
[Garth gives a knowing smirk.]
And get this, Companies that use video marketing are 53 times more likely to show up on the first page of Google search results. That’s right, 53 times. So, if you want to be the first thing people see when they search for paper, you need to make some videos.
[David checks his notes again.]
And not just google. Don’t just put them on your website. Put them on social media, too. You know, where the kids hang out.
Tim: Do kids want paper?
David Brent: Course they want paper.
Gareth: yeah, course they do, obviously.
So, if we want to sell more paper, you need to make some videos. And make them good, or else you’re just wasting your time.
David: right. So ideas, ideas….come on. Think.
Tim Canterbury: Well, I was thinking we could do something simple, like a product demonstration.
Gareth Keenan: [interrupting] Boring! We need something more exciting, like an action movie!
[he frames his hands and sets the scenes]
I’m in a police chase, I jump from a helicopter and as I land, I pull out an AK. Paper flies everywhere [he makes a noise like a machine gun]. Unfortunately, you get caught in the crossfire and lose both your knees.
Tim Canterbury: [concerned] Wait, what? Why?
Gareth Keenan: [enthusiastically] Why what?
Tim: All of it. Why? How’s that gonna sell paper?
David Brent: [shocked] Gareth, that’s a terrible idea! We’re trying to sell paper, not create an international incident!
Gareth Keenan: [defensively] Hey, it’s just an idea! But think about it, boss. Everyone loves a good action movie. And if we make it look like our paper is the key to your escape, we could sell tons of it!
David Brent: [skeptical] I don’t think that’s how marketing works, Gareth. Besides, I don’t want Tim getting kneecapped. We need him here to sell paper.
David: No, what we need is VR. Very popular and bang on trend. We’ll have someone wearing the VR headset and they’ll be transported to a virtual world where they’re surrounded by stacks and stacks of paper. They’ll be able to touch and feel it, roll in it,….. even smell it…..maybe lick it….
Gareth: But how will we film it?
David: That’s the best part, Gareth. We won’t even need to, because it’s virtual.
Tim: [looks to camera] I’m not sure that how it works…
David: Nonsense, Tim. This is going to be the best virtual reality video ever made. We’ll sell so much paper, people will think we’re printing money!
David Brent: And, folks, here’s the kicker. Video content is shared 1200% more than text and images combined. That’s right, 1200%. So, if you want to get your paper in front of more people, you need to make some videos. Now who’s with me!

Well, I think we can all agree that despite the deviations in some of the key messages, it’s definitely entertaining. If you’re interested in how it sounded before AI, then click here for the original article.
